Restructuring Campaigns

I’m sure by now, you’re pretty darn sick of campaign commercials. Out here in the desert, Tom Steyer, that uber-leftist eco-terrorist, is spending millions on a campaign to uber-regulate our electric company into using more solar. It’s to the point where he ran… and I’ve taped it because I’m sure no one will believe me… EIGHT commercials in a row! These all ran back to back to back to back etc…on Fox News. And it got me thinking, there has to be a better way, whereby we aren’t subjected to this garbage every single election cycle.

There is.

Politicians won’t ever accept what I’m going to propose, but it makes sense. First of all, we take ALL of the money out of politics. No more fundraisers, no more PAC’s, no more spending. With this plan there is no more need to do any of that.

First, we eliminate all advertising for politics. Then we give every legitimate candidate, say 100 minutes of TV time, and 100 minutes of radio time. They get 100 ads for the newspaper, and 10,000 direct mail pieces. They also get 10,000 internet ads. That’s it. They get them for free, so there is no need to raise money any more. And every candidate gets them and can use them however they want, except they are not transferable. If they don’t use them, they lose them.

Candidates can hold them and use them all the week before the campaign, or spread them out. They can run them on one station, or several. Whatever, everybody gets the same thing, and you won’t be bothered by the political parties anymore asking for monetary solicitations. When the ads have run, the candidate is finished with advertising.

You’ve now done away with the wealthy contributing to campaigns, with PAC’s spending huge sums of money for their candidates, and gone are the fundraising dinners all candidates must make. Also, there is no more “owing” big donors anything. If anybody is found to be giving money to a candidate, they are jailed for bribery. It’s that simple.

So, what’s the worst thing that could happen? Not a damn thing. You may not know about a certain candidate like you do today, but if you do your own due diligence, which you should be doing anyway, you’ll find out all you need to know. It’s that simple. And people like Tom Steyer, and the Koch Brothers, and George Soros will be basically able to keep their billions of dollars and use them for something more constructive.

There. Problem solved. And now we can go back to watching William Devane try and sell gold or silver, or watch some stupid insurance commercial with talking gekkos or the like. And we won’t be slathered with meaningless mail that quite frankly, gets shredded in the Cactus household as soon as it hits the mailbox. Now, we can get back to our own lives and not have to worry about the crap that goes on every year.

No need to thank me….really….you’re welcome.

And carry on world…you’re dismissed!
