As the President’s defense team wraps up it’s 24 hours of presenting it’s side of the case, it’s become very noticeable to Senators in the Jury that something is amiss. Where are the people that usually flood the gallery up above the Senate floor? It’s almost empty!
Throughout last week, there were noticeably empty seats that many Senator Jurors took notice of. Now, you and I didn’t see that because there is only one camera that is trained on whomever is speaking, and it’s a pretty tight shot. You don’t get the chance to see what the Jurors in the trial are actually doing, and you don’t get to see a shot of the entire chamber, which had a half empty gallery.
Democrats reason that the gallery is empty because the whole proceeding is on television, and if you wanted to watch it, you could be in the comfort of your own home and watch it. Well, that’s kinda true…unless of course you didn’t want to turn on CSPAN or run the Fox News app. Most news channels, and the broadcast channels all dumped “gavel to gavel coverage” because it was way too boring and the daily ratings showed that no one was tuning in. They all went back to regular programming. Even places like MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News decided to just “keep tabs” on the proceedings, and allow their regularly scheduled programming to air.
Republicans, on the other hand are reasoning that the gallery is empty because what was going on was 28 hours of blather. Democrat House Managers were basically repeating themselves, debasing the president, and the Senate if they didn’t convict and remove the president, all the while knowing full well how this charade ends. Oh, there were some that couldn’t figure out what was going on, and wondered allowed why more people weren’t interested to see history in the making live and in person!
I can cut through the chase for you. Here’s what’s going on. The trial is boring. The trial is uneventful because frankly people like Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler are not exciting speakers. They drone. They put people to sleep. And America has heard their case ad nauseum. We don’t need to hear it again. America either feels, like most Democrats, that Trump is guilty of the two charges and needs to be removed from office like, yesterday. Or, they feel like most Republicans and Independents, that the Democrats are sore losers and are trying to make themselves feel better after blowing the 2016 election.
People are tired of this. You talk to people that are your friends and neighbors and I bet about 1% of them are actually tuning in to hear this stuff. I know my wife, who is probably more politically savvy than most people, but not really into politics won’t watch any news station if it’s got coverage of the trial on. She claims it’s boring, she’s heard it all before, and it doesn’t matter because Trump wins in the end. It’s kinda like the whole Clinton impeachment thing. There was no way he was going to be convicted, and there is no way Trump is going to be convicted. And yes, Virginia, it WILL hurt Democrats at the ballot box this November.
The best thing that can happen at this point is for the Trump team to finish it’s case, the Senate to ask their 16 hours of questions, start their debate and vote against witnesses, because it won’t change anything, and if the House didn’t do their work properly, it’s on them, not the Senate to do that. Then, vote to either convict Trump or exonerate him. And let’s get on with the business of running the country. We’ve seen enough of this charade. My only hope coming out of this is that people in these Democrats’ districts that pushed for this realize they are the problem and remove them from office. And I am too much of a realist to believe they’re smart enough to actually do it.
Carry on world…you’re dismissed!
