It was just before the final debate, and it was a comment that I thought was almost a throw-off. But Republican Pollster, Frank Luntz was being interviewed on Fox News, and said something that if true, could certainly change the landscape of political races for all time.
He said if pollsters get this election wrong (as they did in 2016), it will be the end of polling companies.
On the surface, it doesn’t sound that bad. If you’re like me, and you happen to live in a “battleground state”, you may relish the fact your phone won’t be ringing with idiotic telephone calls from polling organizations wondering how you’re going to vote. And it seems strange that when I lived in Ohio, THAT was a battleground state, and ended up determining the 2004 presidential election. Now, I’m in what I thought was a safe “red state” of Arizona, and IT has become a battleground state. I can’t get away from it!
But go beneath the surface of Luntz’ comment, and you’re going to find that it would indeed change the whole political landscape forever. It was front page news some four years ago when the Gallup Organization, the company that actually started presidential polling back in the 1940’s announced that they could no longer effectively do presidential polling because they weren’t good at it anymore. I gave them credit for knowing when to get out of the fray, but it was a shock really. And, as we saw four years ago, it was a harbinger of things to come. I think there was one little polling outfit that actually called Trump’s election. Everyone else went with Hillary. And the reason that they were so off-base on that call? Trump supporters were tired of being called “deplorables”, and individually decided they’d lie to the pollsters. So, millions of people started saying they were going to vote for Hillary and not Trump. Pollsters took them at their word, and published the poll saying that Trump was going to lose by 5 or 6 points, and lost the election big time.
And the question, because no one really knows for sure, is the same thing happening today? Most people on the right will tell you they aren’t being honest with the pollsters. I know I’ve been contacted dozens of times, and I always tell them the same thing. I like Trump’s policies (which is true), I think he’s the most unpresidential president we’ve ever had, at least in my lifetime, and I’m ready for someone who can honor the office with the proper respect and dignity. None of that is a lie, by the way. But when it comes to who I am pulling the lever for, I tell them I am going with Biden. Not even a gun to my head could make me do that.
Joe Biden is not qualified to become President of the United States. He’s got just as much baggage as Hillary Clinton had apparently, with this whole Hunter Biden, China, Ukraine deal. And there’s more coming out every day on that. And even if only 10% of it were true, it’s enough to disqualify him from getting my vote. Now, add to that the fact that the guy can’t tell his wife, Jill “Good morning!”, without a teleprompter, and I am looking at a buffoon that shouldn’t be anywhere near the White House. I guess in hindsight, I can honestly say I’m really glad nothing ever happened to Bobo Obama!
I’m hearing from several different sources, that the mail-in balloting is running about 80-20 Democrat to Republican. That’s what the mainstream media is saying. I’m also hearing from other sources that the voting is actually a lot closer than that, which would tell me that rank and file Democrats may be voting for Trump. Now, I don’t know how they know that because I know in some states, you can’t even open those ballots until the morning of November 3rd. I’m just hearing that it’s already closer than anticipated by the Democrats.
If Donald Trump is able to once again take the win over the Democrats after trailing badly leading up to the election, he’s going to go down in history as a master politician. Not bad for a guy that never held elective office before winning the biggest prize in politics!
Carry on world…you’re dismissed!
