I get it that Joe Biden doesn’t have a medical degree. I guess we can all be thankful for that one. Last Thursday, Biden was speaking on the economy and made, what the Washington Post (VERY liberal paper) said was a “four Pinocchio comment”.
Here’s what he said:
“You know, if we don’t do something about Alzheimer’s in America, every single, solitary hospital bed that exists in America—as the nurses can tell you—every single one will be occupied in the next 15 years with an Alzheimer’s patient—every one.”
Now, compare what he said last Thursday, to what he said last March in Ohio during a campaign stop at a hospital:
“If we don’t do something, for example about Alzheimer’s, every single bed in American hospitals today will be occupied by someone with Alzheimer’s within 20 years, every single bed.”
I do know something about this topic. My wife worked in the long-term care field for years and her last job before retirement was in a memory care facility where they had LOTS of Alzheimer’s patients. But even if I had no idea what Alzheimer’s was, I’d call this weird. How do you lose five years within 14 months?
The funny thing here is that no one can source this information to any credible place. There is nowhere under the sun that says that we are going to run out of hospital space because of Alzheimer’s. In fact, let’s run the numbers, shall we?
Currently in the US, there are 6 million Alzheimer’s patients. That’s according to the Alzheimer Association. The predict that number jumps to 11 million by the year 2040. The Milken Institute says it will be 13 million by then. Take your pick. Now, there are currently 538 cases of Alzheimer’s that require hospital stays for every 1,000 people over the age of 65 on Medicare. If you do the numbers for 13 million people, you get 7 million hospital stays. Currently there are about 36 million hospital stays per year in the United States…so Biden’s numbers are out in left field somewhere. That’s using the 2040 projected numbers, and the highest projected numbers at that!
I have no idea where this guy gets his statistics. It must be on some cereal box that he’s reading during breakfast in the morning, because no one can figure it out. When the liberal rag Washington Post comes out and gives four Pinocchio’s, you know there is something wrong with the comment. And by the way, just for the record…this was the fifth “four Pinocchio” comment Biden has had from the Post since taking office on January 20th. That means he averages a whopping lie once every 26.2 days.
And you guys elected this idiot?
Carry on world…you’re dismissed!
