So, What’s Going On With Fox News???

You have to wonder what’s up with Fox News. The right of center cable news channel announced last Wednesday that Juan Williams, was leaving The Five after being the lonely liberal on that show for the past six years. Then, very quietly, but within a couple of days, it was learned that left-winged FOH (Friend of Hillary), Donna Brazile was parting ways with the news network. Brazile joined Fox News as a “Contributor” after the 2016 election.

So, what is going on with Fox News?

First of all, seeing people leave Fox for other media outlets isn’t new. Shepard Smith, Megyn Kelly, Greta Van Susteren, George Will, Andra Tantaros, Bill O’Reilly, Bob Beckel, Stacey Dash, Major Garrett, and others have all left over the last five or six years. Some like Kelly, Beckel, and Dash, were fired…most quit. So, to change out Williams and Brazile isn’t something earth shattering. It’s just interesting that both left the same week.

Now, to be fair, Williams didn’t like the fact (at least this is what he said) that The Five was going back to the studio for the first time in over a year because of COVID. They’ve been doing the show from five different locations strewn around the country. It’s expensive to do that, and I’m sure Fox News wanted to save some bucks. What’s baffling is that Williams has been vaccinated, AND he’s suffered from COVID, so you would figure he’d be one of the last people to be worried about the disease. There has to be more to it than that!

Frankly, Williams was a very poor fit on The Five. He has never been what I would call a good TV caster. He can’t read a teleprompter to save his life, and he never got what the whole show was about. It’s supposed to be this “good-time-rock-n-roll” discussion of the day’s current events geared toward say the 18-35 year old crowd. Williams doesn’t fit in being that he’s 67, and is 11 years older than the next oldest member of the cast, Greg Gutfeld (who acts more like 16). Williams is also a terrible ad libber. His liberal views weren’t as painful to watch as his stumbling through his own ranting monologues. I had told some friends at Fox News several times that there were several other liberals out there that could do a better job at getting the point across. Of course, I said the same thing about Chris Stirewalt over the years. They eventually listened when the blowback got to be too big. My thinking was, Fox News wanted a stumbling, bumbling old person as a liberal in Williams because he couldn’t articulate that position very well.

Now on to Brazile. I thought Donna Brazile was a very strange choice when she joined Fox News after Hillary got smashed in the 2016 presidential election by Donald Trump. You’ll remember, she was at CNN at the time, and was guilty of handing Hillary debate questions before the debate. That kind of knocked any credibility she had right down the tubes. But Fox News still went after her. I understand they even wanted to keep her this time around (maybe as Williams replacement on The Five?). She decided she wanted to go back to ABC, and the parting was described as “amicable”. Either way, Brazile was always less liberal, and a lot nicer on camera than she has known to be when she was in charge of the DNC, or at other liberal networks. She did a fairly good job at fitting the Fox News mold.

So, does this mean that Fox News is leaning the way of Newsmax? The upstart network, that exists basically to promote is print products is unabashedly conservative, and never tries to be balanced. Where Fox News will have two conservatives and one liberal on their “panels”, Newsmax eschews the liberal and just uses the conservative voices. And, Newsmax has seen an incredible boost in their ratings since the election last year. That’s partly due to a lot of former Fox News viewers that left that cable channel for greener pastures after the election coverage, which even Fox admits sucked.

Either way, Fox will proceed. We haven’t seen Marie Harf in a while (that’s a good thing). And we’re starting to see a lot more of Jessica Tarlov, who was on The Five on Friday. Maybe Fox News is starting to go more with the younger liberal anyway. The good news on that is, they’re views are totally out of mainstream, and they’re so much easier to argue against!

How Not To Be A Journalist

I never went to J-School. That’s what most journalists call the college that they ended up attending. It of course, stands for “Journalism School”. There are a couple in the country that are very well renown. Syracuse, Missouri, and Northwestern are probably the three most popular, though pretty much every college in the country offers a degree in journalism. And back when I was in school, and yes, I did take a few J-School classes, there was a very strict policy that you abided by. You never, EVER wanted to give up your credibility. To have a conflict of interest of any sort was instant death. You’d not only be fired from your job, you’d probably be black-balled in the industry, and most likely would end up writing columns for some weekly shopper rag that’s passed out for free.

My how times have changed.

No self respecting journalist would have ever stooped to the level that we’ve seen Chris Cuomo from CNN dive to. In case you’ve missed it, Cuomo, the younger brother to New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, has been advising his older brother during his two scandals, the sexual abuse scandal he’s embroiled in, and more importantly, the nursing home death scandal that erupted during the COVID pandemic a year ago. First of all, you have to understand. Journalists are there to COVER the story, not become the story. Chris Cuomo forgot about that. Second, they should not allow their personal beliefs and prejudices to get in the way of the facts. They aren’t supposed to “spin” the story, they are supposed to report the story. And they are supposed to present only facts that have been checked and re-checked, through multiple sources.

Chris Cuomo has failed on all accounts.

He got embroiled in his brother’s scandals almost from the beginning. That should have been enough for CNN to fire him right then and there. It became obvious very early on that Cuomo could not remain unbiased when dealing with his brother’s trials and tribulations. But CNN decided to turn the other cheek and ignore it. They forbid Cuomo to be involved in any story regarding Andrew, but never took him off the air, which any self-respecting news outlet would have done immediately.

Cuomo’s response to all of this? Well, it came out recently that not only has he been biased toward his brother, something I think we call could excuse him for, but he had been advising him on how to handle all of the negative news. He should have distanced himself from his brother’s problems and not had any contact. Instead, he was talking to him several times a day. And he was keeping his prime time show on CNN every night. But Cuomo told the world that he had a responsibility to his family and that came first. I’m fine with that. But a journalist, like everyone else, cannot serve two masters. His job’s master isn’t CNN, it’s you and me and anyone that watches CNN and expects fair coverage of the day’s events. If you can’t be unbiased with your family, you have to give up the show. Cuomo failed on that account.

Like Brian Williams, Dan Rather, and a host of other “journalists” who either made up stories, edited stories to spin them a certain way, or displayed immense bias, Cuomo needs to go. If CNN doesn’t have the balls to fire him outright, it’s up to America to do the job for them. That’s done by not watching him. Low ratings are always a killer in TV news. And no one, not even Christ Cuomo is above that tenet.

Golden Globes Get Axed

Oh, I’m sure they are still going to go ahead and host the awards. I mean, after all, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) isn’t going to go into hiding, over the latest announcement. But they aren’t going to have millions of people, or even a million people watching them. That’s for sure.

In case you missed it, NBC has decided NOT to air the 2022 version of the Golden Globe Awards.

Now, if you listen to NBC, it has nothing to do with sagging ratings. The Golden Globes, like the rest of the award shows out there, have been on a severe slide over the past several years. In-depth analysis as to why ratings suck so bad is basically because America is tired of hearing mamby-pamby Hollywood stars complain and gripe about the world as they see it. Gone are the days of stars thanking their co-stars, or their directors, or their producers, or their agents…or God forbid…God! No, it’s not ratings that have sunk the Golden Globes.

It’s the fact that the HFPA doesn’t have a single black member in it’s midst. And that’s garnered the attention of not only NBC, but also Netflix (who’s in bed with the Obama’s), and Amazon.

So, forget the fact that NBC basically would have to either give away the airtime as a bonus to advertisers who bought regularly scheduled programming, or charge so little that they’d not be able to pay the floor director minimum wage. They say the real reason is because they aren’t following black lives matter close enough. Anyone in media, anyone who’s ever worked in media, we know better.

Understand this. Media is all about money. It’s about the all-mighty dollar. The cost per rating point (CPP), and the ability to pack in the 18-49 and 25-54 demo’s. And frankly, awards shows are pulling people in today about as much as 1980’s westerns were pulling people in. They aren’t.

The networks just found an interesting scapegoat to blame it on.

Now, NBC says that they’ll be back in 2023, IF the HFPA puts some people of color in their midst. They just don’t want to see more excuses for “white supremacy” calling the shots prior to the Oscars! If you believe that, I’ve got a bridge in Lake Havisu City I’d like to sell you. It’s a neat bridge too! At a bargain basement price!

What you’re starting to see with the Golden Globes, you’re going to see with the rest of these awards shows. No, they aren’t going to blame the uber-socialist actors and actresses that want to smash Donald Trump’s face with their hard-won award. You’re going to start seeing more and more of these things because two and three hours of network airtime is expensive as hell, and they don’t want to give it away for a bunch of white actors and actresses to get up and spout off on how racist all of us whites are. They’d much rather let some of the off-brand networks like Sci-Fi, or Hallmark run the awards show, so they can continue to air reruns of Law & Order SVU (it does, after all, feature Ice T!)

The award show glitz and glamor of the past is over. Americans no longer care about popping popcorn and watching Meryl Streep pick up yet another award, even if she does scream bloody murder how people are dying in Africa. Very few of these actor types are donating enough to do a damn thing about it. In fact, I think the only group that has ever done enough to even be measured was the t-shirt sales that U2 sold in their concerts. That actually did make a difference. The rest was, as they say, a fart in the ocean.

Saying Goodbye To “Circle Back”

Oh, it happens in Washington, DC a lot. In fact, Donald Trump had not one, not two, not three, but FOUR Press Secretaries over his four year term in the White House. But I don’t think that any of them made their intentions known publicly only four months into the job. Jen “Circle Back” Psaki is looking to move on.

Now, the official reason Psaki is giving is because she’s got rather small kids. Her oldest daughter is just starting Kindergarten this fall, and she says she wants to spend time with “her magical unicorn”. But you and I know that can’t be all of it.

The Press Secretary’s job is a 24/7, type of deal. It’s not something anyone would want to aspire to. I mean, if you’re looking at something like a 9 to 5 type of job, go down to your local bank branch. Press Secretaries have to be on call all the time. There isn’t a day off in the White House, and that means there is always news being made, and that means there are always reporters wanting to know every little detail about every little thing. With this president, it’s what time did he take his nap?; Did he get his oatmeal for breakfast today? How many lies has he told? Why hasn’t K-baby Harris gone to the southern border yet? And a myriad of other questions.

Psaki, you’ll recall was the State Department spokesperson when Hillary was there. She did a pretty good job, looked halfway decent on camera, and was able to do a semi-credible job at handling those guys at Foggy Bottom. And she was certainly a ton better than her replacement, Marie “Neato” Harf, who really was the epitome of a dumb blonde. Psaki got booted upstairs to the White House, though never took over the role of Press Secretary.

This go-around, she appears to have exemplified the Peter Principle. She appears to be well over her head, and I’m not so sure it’s her fault. She has her hands full making a stumbling, bumbling idiot like Joe Biden look and sound like he belongs as leader of the free world. It’s a job I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy, because quite frankly, you’re going to end up losing, regardless what you say, or what you do.

Psaki told David Axelrod in his podcast recently that she probably will leave within the next year. That would put her on par with a bunch of Press Secretaries. And I would look for her to show up somewhere like CNN or MSNBC as a “Democrat strategist” or some such nonsense. Trust me, she ain’t about to become some homeroom mom for her daughter baking cookies and going on field trips to the zoo!

Time To Shelve Oscars?

I remember when I was a kid growing up in Michigan, the Academy Awards was a big deal. My mother would make sure that I had seen probably four, sometimes all five of the nominees for Best Picture. I could tell you the nominees for Best Actor and Actress, Supporting Actor and Actress, hell, even the Best Director! And there was a time that over a quarter of the nation would tune in on Oscar night to watch which movies were picked as the best of the best.

How times have changed!

The Oscars were held this past Sunday night. And by all accounts, it was a bust. There were about eight million viewers tuning in. That’s a far cry below the 50 and 60 million that used to watch just 30 years ago. So, it begs the question, why? What happened that the Academy Awards, that once heralded mega-night of glitz and Hollywood glamor could suddenly drop into obscurity? What would cause this program that is one of the all-time premier award shows to almost lose out to 60 Minutes? I doubt the answer will surprise many of you.

It is politics.

At a time when the country is torn apart by politics, and nothing, not even Sleepy Joe Biden is able to bring us together and unite us, the country is divided so deeply that when the Oscar winners get on stage for their acceptance speeches, we tune out.

Actually, that’s exactly what happened. They now have the ability with TV ratings to do minute by minute ratings and see where it was that viewers switched off of a TV show. This past Sunday it was exactly when people started talking about George Floyd’s murder, or defunding the police, or abolishing the police, or green new deal, or any of the other stuff that the left is foisting on us.

And I had to stop and think for a minute. IF Hollywood leftist socialists are espousing and mimicking AOC and Bernie Sanders, shouldn’t the leftist socialists and snowflakes around the country be tuned in and applauding? The answer is, no…they never tuned in in the first place. The Oscars are not there for the leftist crowd. They are there for the old farts that used to go and watch Betty Grable, and John Wayne, and Marilyn Monroe, and Spencer Tracy. The Millennials of today aren’t watching shows like the Oscars. That’s SO, 1960’s to them! Those folks aren’t even watching ABC, much less an awards show there. They may catch something on MTV or on TikTok (or at least commentary on Tiktok), but you won’t find them watching ABC’s coverage.

So, the media has a really important decision to make. Are the Oscars going to go the way of the Rose Bowl Parade? Remember? That used to be one of the New Year’s Day traditions in millions of households all over the country. You could tune in to NBC (they always showed the parade), and watch the great floats made of flowers, and the marching bands, and the stars. What a special time that was. Now where do you go to find it? Anybody? Buehler? Buehler?

It’s on The Hallmark Channel.

Network TV has maybe one or two more years that they are going to carry the Academy Awards before they shuffle it off to one of the second or third tier networks. There were 18 million viewers a year ago. There were eight million this year. If they lose another 10 million next year, there won’t be anybody watching. It’ll be crickets.

The cure is easy. Nominate mainstream movies that everyone goes to and watches. That’s the first thing. There’s a reason why Nomadland, the winner of this year’s Best Picture, is available for free on a ton of the streaming stations. No one went to see it and paid for it. Second, tell the winners that they aren’t allowed to make political comments. They are there to thank the people that helped give them their award, and go party the rest of the night. And let America know that those boring speeches aren’t going on. Maybe…just maybe, that will be enough to save the Academy Awards from being shown on E!

Cable News On The Outs

There’s an old saying in media…what goes up, always comes down. And when cable news networks enjoyed sky-rocketing ratings during Donald Trump’s presidency, whether they praised him or bashed him, you should have known it wasn’t going to last forever.

And it hasn’t.

CNN has lost about 55% of their total daily audience since inauguration day. They went from 2.2 million viewers per day down to about a million. That’s a huge loss in just a few short months. MSNBC has had similar declines. And Fox News, while rebounding a little bit, still hasn’t gotten over the Chris Stirewalt debacle on election night. They’re down as well, though they regained their #1 position in March, and are poised to keep it in April.

What I find amazing is that the younger people that were so into Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden and wanting to get rid of Trump, should be tuning in by the billions. Instead the top advertising demographic, the adult 25-54 year old has dropped cable news by 60%!

If you go back to last Wednesday, which I picked at random, Tucker Carlson is the top rated cable news show in the industry (Adults 25-54) with about 3.2 million total viewers. That’s a little better than normal for him from prior to the election. Chris Cuomo’s show is rated 10th among all cable shows at 1.3 million, which is about 65% lower than right before the election. Rachel Maddow has long been the leader at MSNBC, and had a particularly good night last Wednesday with over 2.9 million viewers, but 2.1 million of them were over 50. That doesn’t bode well for advertisers! She finished the 25-54 race in 16th place.

What’s the reason for the decline?

First of all, there is a certain segment of the population that loved to hate Donald Trump and would tune in for anything anti-Trump. But the overriding factor was the fact that Joe Biden is very boring and doesn’t do a whole lot. Yes, he steps in it quite a bit, which is probably how Fox News regained it’s top spot after losing it in the 4th quarter of last year, but he is trying to get legislation passed such as statehood for DC, which would give the Dems’ two additional Senators, or packing the court, which by all accounts is being met with a lot of resistance on both sides of the aisle. Meanwhile, Biden hides out in the Oval, and K-baby Harris hides out overseeing her $700 million renovation of the Naval Observatory home she currently occupies.

Whether or not the ratings change as we head into summer will depend on the issues being discussed and the positions being taken by the various media outlets. Nobody likes to tune into a program where everything is roses and cupcakes. We’ve learned the bashing of personalities is what draws viewers in these days…at least for some on the left! And right now, there’s no way they will bash anyone on the left. So, they deal with lower ratings, lower revenues, lower viewers, lower prestige.

Gun Violence Erupts (Again)

Over the past week, there have been several shootings. A couple by police, and a few more mass shootings. Actually, there have been more than “a few”. There have been 54 in the past month. We had the 13 year old kid that was killed in Chicago, we had the rookie police officer who confused her taser with her gun, and there have been at least 25 other shootings where some have been killed or wounded and some have not, in the past 72 hours.

It got me to wondering why.

We didn’t hear about a ton of shootings when Donald Trump was president. And I usually start turning to the difference in the parties when that comes up. The only thing I can put my finger on isn’t the fact there are actually more shootings, though there are statistics that say that’s true in certain parts of the country, like Seattle or Portland. And I don’t necessarily believe that there are that many more shootings. What I believe is happening is the liberal media is covering the shootings a lot more.

Why?

Great question! Biden is trying to use Executive Orders to stem gun violence. That never works because it can’t. First of all, even if Congress passed the most stringent gun law you could imagine (yes…taking your guns away from you), it wouldn’t solve the problem of gun violence. That’s because there are currently laws on the books that say it’s illegal to shoot someone under most circumstances. It’s certainly illegal to kill someone unless it’s in self defense. So, passing new laws isn’t going to matter much.

Take the case of the guy in Indianapolis who shot up a FedEx facility, killing eight people (as of this writing). Would any law have stopped him? Nope. He was bound and determined to take people out and then take his own life, which he did. When you know you’re going to be counted among the dead when the smoke clears, are you really thinking about what laws you’re breaking? Of course not. So, all of this banter and blather in DC about eliminating high capacity magazines, or limiting what gun you can own is ludicrous. It doesn’t matter.

My theory is you hear more about gun violence when the Democrats are in charge because it plays into their narrative better than when Republicans are in charge. Oh, you’ll still hear about the mass school shootings either way, but the liberal media will tend to over-state the shootings when there is a chance it will goad Congress and the president into passing some sort of gun legislation. In the end, what usually happens is, the news cycle moves on, and the whole issue dies.

So, let me play a scenario for you. Let’s say that what I’ve espoused here many times comes to fruition. Let’s say both sides of the aisle agree to ban all guns, and somehow they can get by the Second Amendment. But the caveat is that if there is another mass shooting, the law dissolves, and it never gets brought back up again. My hunch is you will never hear about a shooting in the socialist media again. It won’t play into the narrative. They make up stories, we’re all aware of that. And they don’t cover stories just to protect their own (look at Andrew Cuomo at CNN’s lack of coverage for that one!) You won’t hear of a shooting ever again. Not that there will be a lowering in gun violence. Because the root problem isn’t being addressed. But the band aid is in place. The media won’t cover it. So it never happened.

All of this happens because the media tells you what they want you to hear. It’s not necessarily what the news is, it’s what they want you to believe the news is. If they don’t like a story, regardless of it’s importance, it doesn’t get covered. Fair and responsive journalism? It died over a decade ago.

Lesley Stahl…NOT Ready For Prime Time

60 Minutes attempted to do a hit piece on Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis this past weekend. And while they did achieve the point of twisting the Republican Governor’s words and actions regarding a donation to his PAC from the Publix grocery store chain, tying it (unsuccessfully) to the pandemic and the fact that Publix is one of the pharmacies that is giving the COVID shots.

Stahl’s attempt to play Mike Wallace showed just how amateurish 60 Minutes has become. When Wallace went after someone, the case was so well buttoned up, and the perpetrator was so well exposed, they would run and hide if they saw Wallace coming. Stahl could hold a candle to his style. Instead, she stammers through a wildly inept piece. And when DeSantis was asked at a press conference about the accusations that Stahl was making (for the piece), the numbnuts at 60 Minutes took at two minute complete explanation of what happened down to a few seconds. When called on it, their response was,  “For over 50 years, the facts reported by 60 MINUTES have often stirred debate and prompted strong reactions. Our story Sunday night speaks for itself.” Yawn!

First of all, let’s look at something Stahl and her team failed to look at…the facts.

Publix is the largest grocery store chain in Florida. Their pharmacies are used by millions of Floridians. They have 800 or so stores in the state. If Ron DeSantis’ people wouldn’t have used Publix, I would have wondered what in hell was wrong with them. Instead, they chose to use one of the most available chains in the state. And Publix wasn’t the only large-chain store in the state to administer the vaccine. CVS Pharmacy also was tabbed to do so, yet there wasn’t any mention of that because they apparently didn’t contribute to DeSantis’ PAC. Vaccines are also available at every single County Health Department, every single Hospital, and well over 4,000 other locations in the state.

So, let’s ask ourselves the obvious question. Why the hit piece in the first place?

Florida has been one of the shining beacons of handling COVID. They have had fewer deaths, fewer cases, and better results overall than say, California, who has locked their citizens down. Meanwhile, for the most part (spring break not withstanding), Floridians have been free to do what they want for the last few months. And they have done so without a huge spike in cases or deaths. Florida is one of the big reasons that states like Mississippi and Texas decided to loosen up their grip. Here in the desert, our Governor basically has done the same thing in the last 10 days or so.

That success has catapulted DeSantis into the forefront of the 2024 Presidential Nomination race on the Republican side, and Democrats are extremely worried that if he gets the nomination, he’ll make mincemeat of the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. DiSantis, according to the latest polls has joined former Vice President, Mike Pence, and former UN Ambassador and South Carolina Governor, Nikki Haley as the top three contenders for the nomination (other than Trump of course).

60 Minutes USED to be a reliable, credible news outlet that exposed corruption and wrong-doing to an eager public. Unfortunately, they have fallen into the CBS trap of trying to spin everything news against anything conservative. Back in the day, they were routinely the number one or two show in television, and always won their timeslot. Sunday? They were beaten in all demographics by America’s Funniest Videos. And not just by a little. That little nugget has Mike Wallace’s frozen head exploding!

Have A Look At Your “New Media”

If you had any smattering of thought that the news media in this country was biased, you had to look no further than NBC Anchor, Lester Holt at the 45th Annual Murrow Symposium.

Holt, who was there to receive some sort of award, basically said that in this day and age, the news media doesn’t “need to hear both sides of a story to determine the truth.”

Huh?

Yeah. That was a quote. And on some absolute facts, he’s right, like “the sun sets in the west”. Of course, no one with half a brain is going to argue that point to begin with. But overall, Holt is saying that if there are two sides to a story, and he believes that one side is the truth, that’s all he needs to have to go with the story. That’s a crock of BS.

That is a shining example of what a liberal media can do. They now have decided that they are only going to listen to the liberal side of things because they know what the truth is regardless what the other side is saying. And in their mind the truth (read that as their way of thinking) is irrefutable. So, if you’re talking about Climate Global Change Warming or whatever they are calling it this week, they can just avoid any debate because they KNOW that the truth is that you driving little Jimmy to soccer practice and letting Jenny to her dance recital in that SUV is what’s causing it. They don’t need any more discussion on it. They’ve heard “the science” (from scientists who were told they would be denied federal grants if they didn’t play ball). Anything else is a waste of time and trouble.

And that is the beginning of the socialist takeover in our society. If you are going to allow the media to tell you what the truth is, and not give you both sides so YOU can determine what the truth is, you’re no better off listening to them than you are reading Pravda. We are going to get one side of the news, the leftist side, and anything else doesn’t matter.

That is precisely why Lester Holt should be taken off the air. He and the rest of the liberal snowflake news readers are actually the most dangerous beings in America. If you control the media, you control thought. It’s the very reason that in every coup attempt, the first thing the rebels do is take over the TV and radio stations and the newspapers. They can then feed their own narrative to the masses as the truth.

The only thing that amazes me on that account is that Holt was so damn blatant about it. That should be sending up red flares and warning sirens in your head. If it’s not, wake up, because he obviously has already moved to the propaganda stage in his newscasts leaving the symposium namesake (Edward R. Murrow) rotting in his grave. If Holt were the least bit worried about either losing his job, or worse yet, his credibility, he never would have made such an stupid statement. The mere fact that he would do so tells you they are a lot farther down the road to socialism than you and I thought!

God help us all!

Google’s Latest Attempt To Grab Your Data

Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, and a ton of other companies has come out with a new product. Well, to be honest, one of their companies has come out with a new product that personally I think goes a little too far. It’s not because I think the product itself is bad, it’s the way that the information gleaned from the product could be damaging.

First of all, let’s look at this company. Alphabet Inc. has a $1.4 TRILLION market cap, which makes it the fifth largest company in the world. We’re not talking about mom and pop here! And we’re not just talking about Google. Alphabet Inc owns the following:

Google: A search engine that makes most of it’s money through advertising and selling your information to third parties.

Nest: A company that specializes in “smart-home” products, like video cameras, property surveillance and the like.

Double Click: An ad management and ad servicing solutions company.

Looker: Business intelligence software app and data analyzation.

YouTube: An online video-sharing platform

Waze: Navigation software app for your smartphone

Fitbit: Wearable fitness apps.

OK. You now know the scope of this company. I was surprised at the breadth of what they owned. I knew they had Google, and Waze, and YouTube, and Nest. I didn’t know about some of the others. Anyway, here is the new product.

It comes from Nest. You attach this thing on your wall or your bed’s headboard and it monitors your sleeping activity. It measures when you cough, when you snore, how you breathe, when you move, that sort of thing. It can share it with your physician. That way if you’re suffering from like a sleep apnea type of problem your doctor can get the information. Of course, so can anyone else that wants to fork over the money.

Google has lost a lot of faith from people that learned over the years that everything you search re-targets the advertisements that you see. And beyond that, Google builds a data base on what you search. That’s why search engines like DuckDuckGo.com have become popular. They promise to NEVER monitor or track your searches. But Google still remains the world’s number one search engine.

YouTube is a lot of fun to watch user created videos. And there are a lot of people that make a ton of money on YouTube every year by making those videos because YouTube shares the ad revenue that they get with those “influencers”. But they also have been known to have a rather heavy hand when it comes to certain topics. You can’t mention COVID unless you are a research scientist or a person in the medical field. You can’t go against any of their rather liberal bias, or you will become “demonitized”. Not that it matters to me, but for these folks who make their living doing these videos, it matters, trust me.

And now, Nest is going to monitor your sleep? And are they going to do what the rest of their companies do and sell the data that has been recorded to anyone willing to pony up with the bucks? And are they going to share that money with you? Of course not! I haven’t researched it enough to know if you can opt out of having them sell your data, but I do know they are anticipating this as being an add-on to their home-security hardware, and will charge a premium for it, so if they are selling the data, you should get a slice of that pie!

This is just one more way these big tech companies are screwing the American public, a lot of times without us even knowing it. It’s one thing to monitor your searches. After all, you can choose to use a search engine that doesn’t monitor your searches. But to invade the bedroom? Personally, that’s taking it a bit too far. And there are other companies out there that will monitor your sleep for a short period of time if you need to find out if you have something like sleep apnea.

So, what’s the solution? Well, there are a couple. The first is you stop doing business with Alphabet/Google and their myriad of companies. I doubt that would work. They are too ingrained into our society and our way of life. Another would be for Congress to actually get off the dime and break up these companies, forcing Alphabet to sell off these companies to others, and also make it illegal to sell YOUR information to other third parties without your explicit approval. And if they do, they need to share that sale with you. It is, after all, YOUR data! Or at least it was at one point!

Carry on world…you’re dismissed!
