Time For CNN To Bounce Cuomo?

I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for media companies that are loyal to their employees. Now, saying that, realize that not every media employee is a gem. There are an awful lot of them that are really rank. I can say that there were times in my career when something I said or did was actually supported by upper management, even though it may have been, shall we say, questionable? But I appreciated them telling whomever was coming after me that they supported me. They could tell that I was overall an asset to the company, not a detriment, and if I screwed up on this occasion, I may get a talking to, but I wasn’t going to get fired.

So, it’s with that little backstory that I can say, I fully understand CNN wanting to continue to support Chris Cuomo. He’s got a decent sized (though shrinking) audience on their news channel. And he’s been loyal to them, even if he’s made a mockery of journalism with what he’s done regarding his brothers problems in New York.

But I think there comes a time when you have to ask yourself as a corporation, is this still good to back this guy or is it time to cut him loose? That time is here for CNN.

Every major media outlet everywhere has asked that question at least once in their life cycle. I have known some very good people who got bounced for very bad reasons. I worked with a guy who was doing a morning show, that got into trouble because something he said was misconstrued by the NAACP. It took several meetings, lots of hand wringing and eventually, he was let go. What he said wasn’t that bad, it was the way it was said.

And then you’ve got several folks even at the conservative Fox News that have been let go for their stances. Usually it’s for sexual abuse at that news channel, but there are other things. Roger Ailes, the guy that was at the top forever at Fox News had it happen to him. So did Eric Bolling, Bill O’Reilly, and others. And still others like Glenn Beck got into trouble for other reasons and were bounced from the network. There were several “contributors” that also got bounced, most recently Judge Andrew Nepolitano. Usually their contracts aren’t renewed and they silently slip away without notice. It’s only when you find them at CBS or MSNBC that you find that they’ve been booted.

But it’s time for CNN to decide to let Chris Cuomo go. It’s reached the point, as Andrew departs office this week, that he is no longer an asset to their struggling network. With the network now turning on Joe Biden for his totally insipid and monstrously bad decisions regarding Afghanistan, the southern border, and COVID, it may be time to bring someone fresh in to replace Cuomo. He’s been given enough leeway to last a lifetime. His lifeline has pretty much reached the breaking point.

And it could very well be time for CNN to change it’s political philosophy. I’m not saying they need to be conservative. They certainly don’t need to become another Newsmax. But it could very well be that they could use this whole Biden administration screw up and Andrew Cuomo resignation to examine whether or not they want to stay in bed with Democrats and liberals. The same could be said about MSNBC, who is having a very hard time convincing Morning Joe and his wife that they need to stop crawling into bed with the socialists. Maybe it’s time to get a little bit more back to “normal” journalism, and a lot less of screaming meemies!

It would be nice if the broadcast networks, all of whom jumped on the anti-Trump train, as well as the NY Times, the Washington Post, and the cable news idiots at CNN and MSNBC returned to the day of unbiased news reporting. I don’t need anyone telling me how to interpret the news. I can certainly do that myself. Just report it and let me decide. After all, isn’t that what vaulted Fox News to the top of the cable news heap to begin with? Maybe there’s something to that philosophy?

Cuomo’s Gone

If I’ve learned anything watching Democrats facing scandals, it’s this. There is a marked progression in the steps that are taken before the accused is booted out the door. First, the party rallies around the person. They laud them with compliments. They say they don’t believe the accuser for whatever reason. They say that they’ve known the person for decades and they’ve always told the truth. In light of the fiasco Democrats caused over the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearing, they now have added that they should have an investigation (hoping that buys them time. The media all comes out in support of their comrade and say there is no way this person would do such a dastardly thing.

Then the tide slowly starts to turn.

Oh, it doesn’t happen overnight. In fact, after the initial bombshell of the scandal itself, there is a period of calm. The accused may even be lulled into a false sense that the whole thing is going away. It’s not. It’s just taking a breather. Then something else happens that either more people come forward attesting to the fact that the person is a monster, or the investigation yields proof of some sort that what was said is true.

That’s followed by a shameful wringing of hands and gnashing of the teeth. The party then sits in ashes covered only in sackcloth. Oh wait. That’s the Bible. Sorry…but the party does indeed can’t believe that the accused is guilty. But the calls come slowly at first, then the media jumps on the train and everyone is calling for the person to step down. It happened that way with Al Franken, the former comedian, and former Senator from Minnesota. And it’s that way with Andrew Cuomo. He’s in the “you’re toast” phase.

Attorney General, Letitia James is ready with her report, and apparently it’s pretty damning. CNN is privately suggesting the Cuomo’s brother Chris take some time off…a good long while so that he’s not tainted with this since he’s written his brother’s responses to the allegations from day one. Whoopi Goldberg of The View fame is being targeted as one that has abetted in the whole process since she hosted a fundraiser for Cuomo during the actual investigation. And now, 86 of the 150 members of the New York Assembly, more than what’s needed to call for impeachment, have said Cuomo will face that end to his career if he doesn’t step down once Jones’ report is made public.

For a guy that a year ago was being touted as a presidential possibility, and could easily have defeated Joe Biden in the primaries after his daily COVID briefings that were televised nationally, it’s quite the fall from grace. But the word is out on the street. This guy is poison. He needs to retire and do it quickly.

You know when the liberal snowflake media jumps on board, as they have, you’re not long for this world. Expect an Andrew Cuomo resignation speech sometime in the next week. And remember…you heard it here first!

CNN, MSNBC Continue To Struggle

You would have thought that once Donald Trump was out of office, and Joe Biden had replaced him in the White House, the friendlier confines of socialist media like CNN and MSNBC would do well covering the much more liberal Biden administration. And you’d be dead wrong.

CNN has had problems since January. Jake Tapper, as Donald Trump recently pointed out, has lost about 70% of his network’s audience since Biden took over. Tapper is generally regarded as the most professional of the CNN journalists (are there any true journalists left over there?). Tapper’s program “The Lead” has lost about 75% of it’s audience since January.

But he’s not alone.

Brian Stelter, host of “Reliable Sources” has dropped over half of his audience during that time. In fact, for the last three months, this nationally broadcast show has failed to reach a million people. In June that number was down to 786,000 people. There are LOCAL radio programs that reach more people than that!

Meanwhile at MSNBC, their numbers continue to crater. As with CNN, the main reason at MSNBC seems to be a credibility problem. They are locked in this Kumbaya dance with the Biden administration, only covering positive news, while shunning the gaffes, miscues, scandals, and disasters that have been commonplace since January 20th. When a story doesn’t show that administration in a positive light, it’s CNN and MSNBC’s response to just ignore the news, treat it like it never happened. That would work well if they were the BBC, or Rossiya 24 (Russia’s largest TV News station), were ignoring the problem since they are basically the only national news outlets in their country. But in the US, you’ve got options. While Fox News cratered after the election, they’ve bounced back some. And the big winner is upstart Newsmax who seems to have picked up a good share of the folks that used to turn into Fox News.

So, what does all of this mean in terms that any of us care about? I mean, who really cares if Jake Tapper does a show at night or if Brian Stelter has a job tomorrow? It shows a lot about media. It shows a lot about the fickleness of the American public. And it shows that the socialist media’s assertion that they control the news, and they’ll tell you what they think you need to know is misguided. It doesn’t work that way in a free society.

If you’re going to succeed, you have to at least show the good with the bad. Nobody believes that any administration is 100% good or 100% bad. And if anyone else is telling the world about major snafus happening in the White House or in Congress, you’d better be saying something about it or you’re going to lose something news divisions around the country thought they didn’t need to worry about. You’re going to lose credibility.

Apparently, it still matters that if you’re giving people the news, you still need some semblance of credibility!

How Not To Be A Journalist

I never went to J-School. That’s what most journalists call the college that they ended up attending. It of course, stands for “Journalism School”. There are a couple in the country that are very well renown. Syracuse, Missouri, and Northwestern are probably the three most popular, though pretty much every college in the country offers a degree in journalism. And back when I was in school, and yes, I did take a few J-School classes, there was a very strict policy that you abided by. You never, EVER wanted to give up your credibility. To have a conflict of interest of any sort was instant death. You’d not only be fired from your job, you’d probably be black-balled in the industry, and most likely would end up writing columns for some weekly shopper rag that’s passed out for free.

My how times have changed.

No self respecting journalist would have ever stooped to the level that we’ve seen Chris Cuomo from CNN dive to. In case you’ve missed it, Cuomo, the younger brother to New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, has been advising his older brother during his two scandals, the sexual abuse scandal he’s embroiled in, and more importantly, the nursing home death scandal that erupted during the COVID pandemic a year ago. First of all, you have to understand. Journalists are there to COVER the story, not become the story. Chris Cuomo forgot about that. Second, they should not allow their personal beliefs and prejudices to get in the way of the facts. They aren’t supposed to “spin” the story, they are supposed to report the story. And they are supposed to present only facts that have been checked and re-checked, through multiple sources.

Chris Cuomo has failed on all accounts.

He got embroiled in his brother’s scandals almost from the beginning. That should have been enough for CNN to fire him right then and there. It became obvious very early on that Cuomo could not remain unbiased when dealing with his brother’s trials and tribulations. But CNN decided to turn the other cheek and ignore it. They forbid Cuomo to be involved in any story regarding Andrew, but never took him off the air, which any self-respecting news outlet would have done immediately.

Cuomo’s response to all of this? Well, it came out recently that not only has he been biased toward his brother, something I think we call could excuse him for, but he had been advising him on how to handle all of the negative news. He should have distanced himself from his brother’s problems and not had any contact. Instead, he was talking to him several times a day. And he was keeping his prime time show on CNN every night. But Cuomo told the world that he had a responsibility to his family and that came first. I’m fine with that. But a journalist, like everyone else, cannot serve two masters. His job’s master isn’t CNN, it’s you and me and anyone that watches CNN and expects fair coverage of the day’s events. If you can’t be unbiased with your family, you have to give up the show. Cuomo failed on that account.

Like Brian Williams, Dan Rather, and a host of other “journalists” who either made up stories, edited stories to spin them a certain way, or displayed immense bias, Cuomo needs to go. If CNN doesn’t have the balls to fire him outright, it’s up to America to do the job for them. That’s done by not watching him. Low ratings are always a killer in TV news. And no one, not even Christ Cuomo is above that tenet.

Cable News On The Outs

There’s an old saying in media…what goes up, always comes down. And when cable news networks enjoyed sky-rocketing ratings during Donald Trump’s presidency, whether they praised him or bashed him, you should have known it wasn’t going to last forever.

And it hasn’t.

CNN has lost about 55% of their total daily audience since inauguration day. They went from 2.2 million viewers per day down to about a million. That’s a huge loss in just a few short months. MSNBC has had similar declines. And Fox News, while rebounding a little bit, still hasn’t gotten over the Chris Stirewalt debacle on election night. They’re down as well, though they regained their #1 position in March, and are poised to keep it in April.

What I find amazing is that the younger people that were so into Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden and wanting to get rid of Trump, should be tuning in by the billions. Instead the top advertising demographic, the adult 25-54 year old has dropped cable news by 60%!

If you go back to last Wednesday, which I picked at random, Tucker Carlson is the top rated cable news show in the industry (Adults 25-54) with about 3.2 million total viewers. That’s a little better than normal for him from prior to the election. Chris Cuomo’s show is rated 10th among all cable shows at 1.3 million, which is about 65% lower than right before the election. Rachel Maddow has long been the leader at MSNBC, and had a particularly good night last Wednesday with over 2.9 million viewers, but 2.1 million of them were over 50. That doesn’t bode well for advertisers! She finished the 25-54 race in 16th place.

What’s the reason for the decline?

First of all, there is a certain segment of the population that loved to hate Donald Trump and would tune in for anything anti-Trump. But the overriding factor was the fact that Joe Biden is very boring and doesn’t do a whole lot. Yes, he steps in it quite a bit, which is probably how Fox News regained it’s top spot after losing it in the 4th quarter of last year, but he is trying to get legislation passed such as statehood for DC, which would give the Dems’ two additional Senators, or packing the court, which by all accounts is being met with a lot of resistance on both sides of the aisle. Meanwhile, Biden hides out in the Oval, and K-baby Harris hides out overseeing her $700 million renovation of the Naval Observatory home she currently occupies.

Whether or not the ratings change as we head into summer will depend on the issues being discussed and the positions being taken by the various media outlets. Nobody likes to tune into a program where everything is roses and cupcakes. We’ve learned the bashing of personalities is what draws viewers in these days…at least for some on the left! And right now, there’s no way they will bash anyone on the left. So, they deal with lower ratings, lower revenues, lower viewers, lower prestige.

Carry on world…you’re dismissed!

CNN Tanks After Inauguration

I would have personally thought that after the election, when CNN added viewers at a faster pace than at any time since the first Gulf War, it would have stayed. Guess I mistook liberals (again!). In truth, CNN has lost a ton of viewers since Joe Biden took office.

In fact, the liberal news network has lost 47% of it’s highly-valued 25-54 demographic since January 20th. That’s an amazing figure…especially with all of the news that it out there right now! CNN averaged 2.2 million viewers per day from November 4th through inauguration day. But since that time, the average has slumped to 1.6 million, down almost in half! What’s the reason?

I think most of it is embarassment.

Look at the things they have to cover. No more Donald Trump, so they can’t focus on derailing his presidency any longer. They have a president in office who sometimes doesn’t remember where he is, or the names of his own cabinet. They have Governor in New York that is the brother of one of their nighttime hosts, and they’ve decided that the landscape in Andrew Cuomo’s scandals are so bleak, they’ve banned brother Chris Cuomo from interviewing his brother. In fact, not one of the network’s shows increased in any demographic during the January 21st through March 15th time period.

The only reason I can think of that people would turn away in the numbers that they have is because CNN isn’t covering the news correctly regarding the Biden administration, and the Cuomo administration. What other reason would there be? If things aren’t going well, and you have a cable news channel telling you how great things are, you have a huge disconnect. People pick up on that quickly and will seek out other venues. It happened to Fox News after the election.

Remember when Chris Stirewalt, the overweight “decision desk” anchor for the elections came on and predicted, almost before the polls in Arizona closed, that Biden would win the state? He got reamed for it. And he also got fired. We’re never sure why (Fox News didn’t give a reason). But speculation was that after the election, Stirewalt got the axe for intimating that “rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election” was a result in-part of Trump’s hype men in the media who “helped him steal an election or at least get rich trying”. That comment came in an op/ed piece in the LA Times. After the elections, and still to this day, Fox News is nowhere near where they were in the ratings. It was so bad at the conservative news channel, they revamped their entire lineup earlier this year keeping only a handful of shows in their original spots.

And there is a handful of other “media news” to give you this morning.

You may have heard that Don Bongino, a long-time contributor to Fox News has been given the most listened to radio show in America to head up. Bongino will take over for the late, great Rush Limbaugh beginning on May 24th. Bongino won’t have the sixty million radio stations that Limbaugh amassed…at least not at the beginning. LA, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, and Washington, DC are among the cities that have signed on for The Dan Bongino Show.

And finally, if you’ve ever seen news reports that it looks like the White House is writing questions for the press to ask Joe Biden, so they can script his answers into a teleprompter, apparently that is true. NBC White House Correspondant, Geoff Bennett has come out and admitted that the White House used COVID to limit press access to Biden, and also wrote out questions to the willing press to ask the president, so they could script his answers. And yes, that’s a bombshell worthy of it’s own blog. There was no comment from the White House, and Biden’s first major press conference will take place on Thursday. We will have to wait and see about whether or not he reads his answers from a teleprompter!

It’s Been 40 Years Since…

Forty years ago…would have put us at the first week of March or so in 1981. Some of you may not have been alive back then, but there was a rather earth-shattering event that happened that week that has forever changed our society. It was monumental, because at the time, most Americans felt a kinship with this tradition. We felt like family. We were trusting of it’s calming voice and soothing demeanor. And it’s never been the same. Not once in the past 40 years can any American say they felt as comforted and as well-informed as they were on March 6, 1981.

That was the day Walter Cronkite retired from CBS News.

Let’s compare what has happened to our mass media and our newscasts since that time. It was only about nine years later that an upstart cable news channel called CNN thrust itself to the forefront of our minds, covering news as it happened so we didn’t have to wait until 6pm to find out what we had missed that day while we were at work. We actually could watch a war unfold as CNN had people on the ground in Iraq for the First Gulf War, covering every explosion, every Scud missile attack, every surge, pretty much a blow-by-blow, play-by-play of war, like we had never been privy to before.

Then came MSNBC and Fox News. Together they were able to cover topics in depth, because they could devote time during the day or night to news items that the broadcast networks just could afford to spend time on. All of a sudden, we were able to watch important trials through CourtTV. We watched Congress through CSPAN (starting in 1979), and we were given all sorts of live updates of breaking news. It was only 13 years after Cronkite left his anchor’s chair that all media covered a “slow car chase” of OJ Simpson in nauseating detail.

That coverage has given us a lot of stories we only got a few seconds of when Cronkite was around. But we lost something much more valuable. We lost objectivity. Even The Hill realizes that today’s newscasters are nowhere near the credible source for news that Walter Cronkite was. Cronkite held a mirror up to America every evening and showed us what we looked like. He was unbiased, he was truthful, he was our grandfather in a lot of cases, teaching us what we needed to know. Unfortunately, there isn’t one journalist today on either side of the aisle, who won’t let their bias be shown, and will ram it down your throats if you tune in.

During the Obama administration, we entered into the era of the screaming newscast-type shows. You know the type. The Rachel Maddows of the world…the Bill O’Reilly’s of the world…the Sean Hannity’s of the world…the Chris Cuomo’s and Don Lemon’s of the world will scream at you, will call you names if you don’t agree with their viewpoint, and they aren’t shy at giving you that viewpoint. Even so-called “network journalists” like Norah O’Donnell at CBS, Lester Holt at NBC, and David Muir at ABC are not ashamed or afraid to show their bias.

It does seem like the veil of the 1950’s and early 1960’s was lifted to show a much more raw America. It shows the blemishes, the inadequacies, the ugly side of our society. Cronkite shielded us from that, while being truthful and unbiased. I’m afraid we’re never going to go back to that type of honest reporting ever again!

Is Another Cuomo Set To Bite The Dust?

We all know of the problems facing New York’s embattled Governor, Andrew Cuomo. Now there have been at least three women that have come forward accusing him of sexual dalliances, as well as his ill-fated decision to force nursing homes in the Empire State to take COVID-19 patients (which killed upwards of 15,000 otherwise healthy nursing home residents), and then covered it all up. But did you know the collateral damage may just claim another victim? It would be that of Andrew’s brother Chris, who is a commentator at CNN.

As you know, CNN hasn’t really delved deeply into this whole story (though they think they are), and they’ve forbidden Chris from covering it at all on his show. Why? Probably to spare the younger brother the embarrassment of having to tell the world about the foibles of his older brother. At least that’s my guess. Well, Chris came clean on Monday evening.

He said that he was “obviously aware of what’s going on with my brother, and obviously, I cannot cover it because he’s my brother. Now, of course, CNN has to cover it,” he continued. “They have covered it extensively, and they will continue to do so. I have always cared very deeply about these issues, and profoundly so. I just wanted to tell you that.”

Uh huh.

Actually, if Cuomo were indeed a professional journalist, speaking as someone that made his living in the media for over 35 years, I can tell you, he COULD cover the story. It may be difficult, but there has been precedent. Many times family members have had to cover the less-than-favorable actions of other family members. And I would assume that it was done with professionalism. At least it should have been. You just have to divorce yourself from the story. And in this case, it is almost impossible to do,

The press, his viewers, other pundits have been ruthless on poor Chris though. Most of them, even from the uber-socialist New York Times has wondered why it was he was so chummy with his brother when things were going well and he was winning Emmy Awards? Typically, a journalist, even a “commentator” masquerading as a journalist, would be told not to be as “close to the story” as what Cuomo has appeared to be during the good times. But then when the bad times hits, he’s protected from covering it? No serious journalist makes that connection. It’s just bad business.

And so, not only is Andrew getting heat, and will face the end of his political career, the chances are that brother Chris is going to also be facing a similar fate in the world of broadcasting. Ah, the thud you hear when the mighty have fallen!

How The Mighty Have Fallen

I know a lot of people that did as I did after the November 3rd election and basically called it quits on Fox News. Oh, my wife still likes watching The Five, and she likes Dana Perino. But other than that, nah. I tweeted Bret Baier a fond farewell over their reporting which I considered very biased and not in Fox News tradition at all. I even called for the firing of their “Decision Desk” on air guy, Chris Stierwalt. His comments election night were not only blatantly left-wing, they were wrong.

Apparently, I wasn’t alone.

Here are the ratings from this past Friday, you would figure a huge news day since it was just 48 hours after the Capitol takeover:

MSNBC MADDOW 5,152,000
CNN COOPER 4,855,000
CNN CUOMO 4,320,000
CNN BURNETT 4,221,000
MSNBC O’DONNELL 4,055,000
CNN LEMON 3,891,000
CNN TAPPER 3,803,000
MSNBC HAYES 3,740,000
MSNBC REID 3,369,000
FOXNEWS TUCKER 3,360,000
FOXNEWS HANNITY 3,013,000
FOXNEWS INGRAHAM 2,561,000
NEWSMAX KELLY 626,000

What is shocking here is that NONE of the primetime Fox News shows, which always were at the top of the heap did very well at all. When Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity’s audience are cut in half, it says a lot about how conservatives have deserted the one-time king of the cable news hill. In the void, they have left it to Rachel Maddow, Anderson Cooper, Chris Cuomo and Erin Burnett. In fact, the top nine shows on primetime cable news are on liberal CNN and MSNBC networks.

So what does this mean for conservative news? It’s pretty much the death blow. The broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS) have always had a liberal bent since the days of Dan Rather. Cable news went rogue in the George W. Bush era, and grew stronger in Obama’s reign. Newspapers have been left wing for decades, especially the New York Times, Washington Post, and others like them. In fact, there aren’t many conservative journalists out there at all anymore. The one bastian that conservatives could turn to, talk radio, is also undergoing a change, as Rush Limbaugh, king of the radio talk show, has indicated he has a “death sentence” with his lung cancer, and it’s only a matter of time now.

As the more conservative figures in our world try to get unbiased and actual coverage in news, they are left to look at places like Newsmax. It’s not bad, it’s just not very professional, and lacks the polish that we were used to on Fox News. You certainly can’t turn to the internet anymore, with Big Tech giants like Microsoft, Twitter, Facebook, and Apple all bailing on Parler, and knocking off anyone they don’t feel is liberal enough from their own sites. One would say that it looks very bleak indeed for conservatives.

Then Tuesday morning I’m greeted with the news that long-time Republican mega-donor, Sheldon Adelson passed away at 87. Depending on his heirs and their philosophy, that could leave a gaping hole in Republican donations for years to come!

But overall, I’m optimistic.

Huh?

Yeah. The thing that makes me optimistic is that we’re dealing with the left-wing of society. They’ve always screwed things up. In fact, you can’t point to a time when they’ve been in charge that they ultimately didn’t. And it’s simply because of one fact. They don’t know when to stop pushing the boundaries. We’ve all known people like that. And this group of folks just keeps pushing and pushing until mainstream Americans say enough and switch parties. Though things may look bleak for those right of center today, trust me…the pendulum swings both ways with equal force. And it’s been swinging faster and faster the further we get down the road.

Media Fearing Life After Trump

Donald Trump has been the best friend of this country’s media over the past five years (including the run up to the 2016 election). Now, I know that statement is going to get a lot of you probably shaking your heads or wondering if I’m having Irish Coffee (and a lot of it) this morning. But it’s true.

The media cares about one thing and one thing only. High ratings and also read that as high subscription rates or readers. That’s it. Because without high ratings, media can’t sell advertising. Without advertising, there isn’t enough scratch to employ more than a janitor or two. The wicked truth is, media doesn’t work if there aren’t people there to pay for it. And when you have the explosion of media that we’ve had over the past decade, most of it thanks to the internet, you have spread the available advertising dollars out pretty thin.

Now, take Donald Trump OUT of the equation. What are the media like CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times and Washington Post going to be talking and writing about? Worse yet, are their viewers or readers going to want to tune in or subscribe to hear the Kumbaya messages that are going to be coming out of the Biden White House, especially if let’s say a recession hits? Of course not.

Put gently, the media are expecting a rather major decline in viewership and readership over the next four years. CNN and MSNBC are already planning for it. The Washington Post is trying to dig deeper in finding juicy salacious stories by hiring 1,000 new reporters! Can you imagine how long they are going to last if advertising and readership goes the way of the rest of the media? It’s a last gasp of a dying newspaper to try and resuscitate itself. And trust me…I’ve seen this happen hundreds of times…it won’t work.

Print is already a dead medium. And broadcast radio and television stations aren’t far behind. I’ve mentioned several times that streaming is the way of the future. Even cable companies have realized that people don’t want their telephone or television services any longer. They’re opting for their high-speed internet instead. And the cable news channels like CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News know without a personality like Donald Trump, they are going to have a lot less to cover! It’s like taking Johnny Carson out of the Tonight Show and replacing him with Tommy Newsom (that will only make sense to you if you were at least 15 years old in 1990!)

So what does that mean for us “regular” folk? Pretty much you should get ready for a couple of things to happen. The loss of viewership and readership will mean a huge decline in ratings. That will in turn mean a loss of advertising revenue as advertisers flock to the internet and streaming. That means that not everyone is going to survive, so look for behemoths like CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC to look for suitors to buy them out or to merge with someone else. And no one can guess if they’ll still have the same political bent when the smoke clears. It’s coming…even Richard Wolffe, a former executive at MSNBC thinks so. He told thewrap.com, “The ratings are going to collapse. You don’t have to be a genius or an experienced executive to figure that out.” Just a matter of time!
