It’s happening again. Bernie Sanders, the Independent Socialist, er…uh…Democrat Socialist…er…well, the guy that’s running for president from Vermont…you know, the old guy with the bad heart? Yeah, he’s the modern day version of Rodney Dangerfield…apparently, he keeps on winning these caucuses and primaries, and the people love him, but he gets no respect in the media.
There’s a really solid reason for that. The media, like the mainstream or more moderate Democrats can’t see a way on how Bernie Sanders beats Donald Trump in November. And it absolutely ruins the Democrats’ narrative that they’ve already started writing, on Russian Collusion 2.0! I mean, how in the world do you say that Russia is going to back a conservative like Donald Trump when he’s going to be running against a socialist that honeymooned in Moscow? It just doesn’t make sense.
Even MSNBC, which is no fan of Sanders by the way, and Sanders has tweeted that the network is anti-Sanders, is asking the question what happens if Sanders wins the nomination? Chris Matthews went ballastic Saturday morning in Vegas as he was covering the Nevada Caucuses. He said,
“I’m wondering whether the Democratic moderates want Bernie Sanders to be president. That’s maybe too exciting a question to raise. They don’t like Trump at all. Do they want Bernie Sanders to take over the Democratic Party in perpetuity? I mean, he takes it over, he sets the direction of the future of the party — maybe they’d rather wait four years and put in a Democrat that they like.”
Not exactly your ringing endorsement.
And the moderates in the Democrat party are getting sloppy at how or if they should coalesce around one of the four moderates running…Buttigieg, Klobuchar, Bloomberg, or Biden. Do they wait until they get past Super Tuesday to see if Bloomberg’s plan plays out? Or do they start making plans now to screw Sanders again?
And what does that say about a political party that professes to be open and transparent, and a “big tent party”, that they won’t give the socialist guy running the nomination if he actually wins it? You better believe that in Bernie’s eyes, this is 2016 all over again. The only difference is, Little Debbie Wasserman-Schultz isn’t there to throw the campaign Hillary’s way from the DNC.
I get it that the media doesn’t think Sanders can beat Trump. And I get it that they don’t necessarily want someone as liberal as Sanders running against Trump. What choice to they have at that point? They have to choose between backing a candidate that they’ve actively campaigned against from the beginning, or backing the guy that has been the target of all of their aggression for the last five years. Places like MSNBC, the three broadcast networks, and CNN, as well as the New York Times and Washington Post are in a puddle of mud over this one!
The real winners, at least in the short term, is going to be Donald Trump. He can continue to take his swipes at Bernie throughout the primary, knowing he’s got all sorts of ammo against Sanders for the debates and the general election, and knowing that the media that he despises, has to choose between what they see as the lesser of two evils. You and I will have a fun time watching.
