Trump’s Trials: Are They Helping Or Hurting?

I sit there and watch pictures and drawings of Donald Trump sitting at a table in a court of law in Manhattan, wondering whether or not he’d be better served being out on the campaign trail or sitting there wasting his time in what is a meaningless trial. I mean, as I’m watching this, they’re only in jury selection. It has to be some of the most boring periods in this guy’s life. Yet the judge, one Juan Merchan, is indeed a tyrant. He’s the guy that told Trump he HAD to be in court every day (that one is lost on me why he would do that). He can’t sit and watch the Supreme Court arguments of his case. He can’t (as of this writing) go to Baron’s high school graduation. That seems a little stupid in my book.

But this judge is buying into the Democrat playbook of “lawfare”. They figure that if they can tie Trump to enough negative stuff and keep him tied up in court, he won’t have the ability to campaign, and he won’t win, especially if he’s found guilty of any of the 88 charges he’s facing.

Well, I don’t know about that.

Joe Biden himself showed us that yes, you can indeed with the White House by sitting in your basement and making cursory remarks from your back enclosed porch. So, knowing that, I would say Trump probably doesn’t have to actually go visit places and campaign and he could still win. He’d win in a landslide if he were able to do that.

And, to be honest, every legal scholar out there is saying that this trial is a sham because no one other than Marchan and Alvin Bragg believe this guy broke any laws. If he did, then Bill Clinton should be in jail for paying off Paula Jones. Remember, he gave Jones $850,000 as hush money when he was president. Trump only paid off Stormy Daniels while he was running for president. Big difference!

My initial feeling was that Trump would be hurt by all of these trials. But as we start winding our way through, and start seeing the Trump legal team’s defense in all of them, it appears that Trump may be able to escape most if not all of the problems. Yes, he’s got to sit in Marchan’s court for six weeks and not campaign, but the real campaign doesn’t start until after the conventions this summer. The Jack Smith led trials (regarding the classified files and the January 6th stuff) is getting looked at rather severely by the Supreme Court and may all be thrown out. In Georgia, Fani Willis is facing some serious legal problems of her own, and that may lead to the whole Georgia thing being thrown out. There’s not a doubt in any legal scholar’s mind that the Bragg trial isn’t going to make it past an appeals court.

Meanwhile, Trump is able to sit and grimace at the judge all day and call him all sorts of names after court is finished for the day. My hunch is, Trump gets everything that will be thrown at him in this case reversed on appeal and Bragg becomes a scapegoat for it. And, it’s not hurting his poll numbers all that much. Yes, Biden has tightened a couple of races, but he’s still far behind where it counts. And I don’t see him picking up more than Pennsylvania in the process.

What we are witnessing is a “win at all cost” being thrown by the Democrats. It’s failing, as has every other attempt to get Trump. But they need to be careful. If Trump were to defeat Biden in November, do you think Biden would stand a chance in court if Trump were to throw the same stuff at him? Not a chance in the world!

Carry on world…you’re dismissed!

  1. I think the longer these cases take the more they expose themselves as a farce! Everyday a new story slips out with something that exonerates Trump and weakens the case against him.

I think the Left knows they can’t convict him of a crime that would throw him in jail, so it’s a game to keep him off the campaign trail and drain him of his money!

    1. I’m not so sure that’s the left’s aim anymore. I think they want him at the very least convicted so they can say, he’s a “convicted criminal”. But the problem is, with the New York case, it’s going to get overturned 10 minutes after it’s finished. And I can’t see either of Smith’s cases nor the Georgia case going anywhere before election day. And from what I read, Fani Willis, and even Letitia James could be in jail LONG before Trump!

      1. Willis and James in jail! Wouldn’t that be poetic justice!

And what’s with special council Jack Smith? I’m hearing that he was never approved with the consent of the Senate?

      2. You’re right on all accounts. Now, Garland will argue that other Special Counsels have been appointed without being approved, but that doesn’t mean that they were exactly correct either. Just because you break the law doesn’t mean the law has been changed.

  2. Helping or hurting what? Of that, I don’t know.

What I do know is that the sketch you shared is the best I’ve seen from the Trump trials. Usually they look like a cross of art work from Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali.

    1. Hmm…I think I’m going to agree with everything you’ve said, Dave. I know the Dems are hoping that these trials keep Trump off the campaign trail, and paint him in a bad light, but I’m not so sure that’s happening. Seems like it could just be backfiring. At the same time, I’m thinking those guys drawing the pictures are in the third grade, or have my drawing talents. You’re right…I’m expecting to see Trump’s head melting like a Dali watch!
